A trip to Rajasthan in India in 1994 initiated the first plan for the garden. After travelling for hours on  dusty overcrowded roads Gael and Ian stopped at a an old palace hotel, tired, hot exhausted. There, on the otherside of the building they stepped out into a beautiful garden.

The lawn was  surrounded by palm trees and underneath gathered in groups sat guests in high backed cane chairs, reading, chatting and sipping cool refreshing drinks. The vision for the croquet lawn was established. Now, 15 years later the palm and pohutukawas trees have matured to provide shade around the fringe of the lawn.

A subsequent trip to the UK and a visit to the beautiful Selworthy Village near  the coast in Somerset and Blaise Hamlet  near Bristol convinced them of  the idea of a ‘village green’ as a centre for the surrounding cottages. This area is now the site for marquees for weddings and for team building exercises for small conferences.
The garden has been built on sand and features many beautiful subtropical plants and keeps the family in fresh tree ripened fruit.
